SHIP’s Ninth and Final Steering Committee Meeting Highlights its Accomplished Milestones Throughout its 7 Year Journey

On Wednesday the 26th of October 2022, SHIP project held its ninth and final steering committee in the premises of the Ministry of Trade and Industry to bring together the expertise of each of its members. The steering committee was held to give a quick overview of the project’s progress since March 2022 and present the Tunisian Solar Water Heater (SWH) market study to help pinpoint and unleash the Egyptian market’s potential. The steering committee also gathered to discuss all aspects of merging and managing SHIP’s revolving fund to help provide the Egyptian market with the optimum available benefits enabling the industrial, touristic and residential sector to have a smooth transition to clean energy.
The steering committee’s attendees comprised of 12 members affiliated to diverse entities including; Ministry of Trade & Industry, Ministry of Environment, Industrial Modernization Centre, New & Renewable Energy Authority, The Egypt National Cleaner Production Centre (ENCPC), and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. The committee was chaired by Mr.Amr Hazaa the Minister of Trade & Industry’s Advisor for funding and development projects with the participation Mr. Ahmed Rizk the Deputy Regional Director of UNIDO.
UNIDO’s PMU led by Dr. Gihan Bayoumi gave a quick overview of the project’s accomplishments across the project’s four components; (i) develop policy instruments, (ii) mobilize financing, (iii) improve local manufacturing & (iv) build the technical capacity and expertise. Dr.Gihan Bayoumi along with UNIDO’s pioneering consultants Ms.Huda Sabry and Dr.Ahmed Huzzayn presented numerous propositions to help make SHIP’s benefits sustainable and attainable to the Egyptian market and all its beneficiaries.
